Swifts

From the middle of May, if you look above your head on the way into school you will often see sickle-shaped birds flying overhead. If you don't see them, you will often hear them as they 'scream' past. These incredible creatures are Swifts. 
 
Swifts' natural nesting sites are in decline which puts the species at risk. With the help of a local naturalist, we installed nest boxes for the Swifts at the apex of the original school house building. In 2023 we had the first of our three boxes used by Swifts. Fingers crossed for more each year.
