RE Overview

Religious Education (RE) at Bury follows a range of planning that covers a variety of religions. Each year children are taught a combination of Christianity units and one or two other religions. During a child's time at Bury, they will learn about: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism and Humanism.

At Bury we believe that children should have access to a balanced, broad, relevant and diverse RE curriculum. Children should understand and be respectful towards a range of religions and their beliefs. We encourage pupils to make links between their own beliefs and the beliefs of others. All units taught incorporate relevant religious texts and stories. Children have the opportunity to engage with these through drama, art, writing and discussions. As a result, children develop a deeper understanding of how these relate to their everyday lives.

Religious education actively promotes the values of truth, justice, respect for all and care of the

environment. It places specific emphasis on:

• pupils valuing themselves and others;

• the role of family and the community in religious belief and activity;

• the celebration of diversity in society through understanding similarities and differences;

• sustainable development of the earth and care for creation.
