Christingle

Each year the whole school makes a Christingle with Fr Peter. This is always a real community event with the children making the Christingles with Fr Peter before joining him and all of their families down at the church for our service.
In 2020 Fr Peter was not able to join us in school so we recorded him instead. The children joined in with the service in school and could do so again at home with their families.
2020 has also seen a lot of families struggling. With this in mind, we questioned the idea of buying in so many oranges which would be used for a short period before becoming waste. The children in Buzzard class decided to create ceramic Christingles that could be used year after year. Whilst this might seem like a move away from the tradition of oranges, the original Christingles did not include oranges. They were a single candle wrapped in a red ruff. Our new ceramic Christingles have been decorated with the world that the orange represents.
