Class teacher with a long-term focus on Early Years – see more below.
A small* mixed-aged class
Full-time (initially temporary until August 2023 with potential to become permanent). M1 – M3*. ECTs welcome
*At Bury we are very committed to a life/work balance and despite the range of ages in our classes, the successful candidate will always have a class of fewer than 30 children – our largest class at present has 27 children.
This is quite possibly the most exciting job opportunity you will find in West Sussex. A rare opportunity has come up for a brand new role here at Bury CE Primary. The following will give you an outline of the role, but to really get a feel for what is on offer, please book an appointment to meet with the headteacher, Mr Moore to have a look around.
Over the past 4 years our small rural school has grown significantly, yet still remains passionately small. We are now in a very exciting position where we are looking to appoint someone to work across the school initially, whilst working with the team to develop a specialist Early Years class to start in September 2022. For the rest of 21/22, the successful candidate will be spending most mornings team-teaching with our current experienced Yr R/1 teacher and will spend other times working with our Yr 5/6 class. Our R/1 class has 25 children and a full-time teacher and teaching assistant. Our Yr 5/6 class has 18 children and a full-time teacher and teaching assistant. From September 2022, the successful candidate will work as part of an Early Years and KS1 team with particular responsibility for Early Years.
This position will appeal to someone who has a passion for Early Years and is keen to be part of a small team. Throughout this academic year the successful candidate will work with the SENDCo and headteacher to create a bespoke Early Years environment ready to teach 10* Reception children from September 2022. The role is very suitable for an ECT as we have experienced staff who provide fantastic support.
The school has significant strengths in English, art, PE and outdoor learning with a curriculum rooted in our unique rural South Downs location.
Do you have enthusiasm, ambition and passion for learning? Are you someone keen to utilise the environment around you to enthuse your class (and can cope with the hearty smells of the countryside!)? We are continuously building and refining a unique curriculum grounded in our own special location and working closely with local experts to ensure we are offering a curriculum specific to us. Whilst we utilise the environment on our doorstep to enhance our learning opportunities, the curriculum is also based on current research to ensure it has the most impact it can.
We are now looking to appoint and grow an Early Years specialist. You do not need to be an expert
We are looking to appoint a committed and dedicated class teacher, who values each child as an individual and recognises the importance of teamwork. The successful applicant will be given opportunities to further their professional development in this small village school in the heart of the Sussex countryside.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is a classroom teacher who is outward looking and always keen to improve their practice
- Is committed to using the local environment to enrich learning
- Forms excellent relationships with children, parents and staff
- Is imaginative, enthusiastic and hardworking
- Is innovative, and committed to school improvement
- Has high expectations of pupil achievement and will play a key role in raising standards
- Can inspire and motivate pupils
- Is sympathetic and supportive of the Christian ethos
- Children with a thirst for learning
- Significantly smaller than average class sizes
- A stunning location at the foot of the South Downs
- A supportive team of staff committed to celebrating the uniqueness of Bury CE Primary School
- A team keen to take risks and exploit opportunities to engage children in every learning opportunity
- CPD opportunities as part of our work with Durrington Research School
- Shared opportunities to work with peers across the Rother Valley network of schools
- Close links with National Trust (who spend time supporting learning at least fortnightly) and South Downs National Park Education Team education team
Bury CE Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Candidates are vetted thoroughly and appointments are subject to identity checks, enhanced DBS clearance and the production of satisfactory references. Candidates will be asked about their commitment to safeguarding children at interview.
Whilst Covid-19 continues to present its own challenges to our normal ways of working, visits to the school are still welcomed and encouraged. Please telephone Mrs Clark (Business Manager) on 01798 831502 to arrange an appointment. Should you prefer not (or are unable) to visit, this is fine. Please call Mrs Clark and she will book in a telephone appointment with Mr Moore the headteacher.
*We have a Published Admission Number of only 10 children. Exact numbers will not be known until admissions informs parents and schools in April 2022. The post is initially for two years with the potential to become permanent if funding allows.
Deadline for applications: 9am Friday 17th September – 2 sides of A4 maximum, ‘Why would you like to join our team?’ We realise this is a very short window for applications, but as this opportunity has only just presented itself we are keen for the successful candidate to get the longest opportunity to get to know our school.
